Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need an ACP-5?

Most construction projects requiring a work permit from the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) must file a complete construction package for New York City approval. The construction package, in addition to signed/sealed plans, requires an ACP-5 form.

Local Law 76/85 mandates an investigation to verify that no asbestos is present in the materials that will be disturbed. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Asbestos Assessment Report (ACP-5 form) confirms the project scope is asbestos free.

How quickly can I receive an ACP-5?

Maypole's standard turnaround for an ACP-5 is 48-hours from the time of inspection. If needed, this can be expedited to 24-hours at an additional fee.

How can I pay for the inspection?

Maypole accepts all major credit cards. We offer the ability for you to pay at the time of inspection or on-line at a later date.  If preferred, payment can also be made by check.

How will I receive the ACP-5?

Once Maypole has issued the ACP-5 we will email a digital copy to you for your records.  Additionally, we will send original, signed and stamped, copies to be used for the DOB filing.  These can be sent to whichever address and contact you prefer.

How long will the inspection take?

The duration of the inpsection will vary depending on the scope of work.  The majority of our inspections take somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour.

Why should I choose Maypole?

Maypole provides 48-hour turnaround and top-notch customer service. We support our clients throughout the entire process and provide results quickly so that you can focus on all the other important things in your life.

Who needs to be present at the time of inspection?

This is up to you! Many times our clients provide access to the space without anyone being there. Other times the architect, home owner, or project manager will be on-site during the inspection. We can work with whatever is easiest for you.

What happens during the inspection?

Prior to the inspection our team will thoroughly examine the project’s construction documents, most notably the demolition plans and notes. Once it is determined which materials will be disturbed during the demolition phase, we determine how many samples will need to be taken.

During the inspection the inspector makes small probes into each material being sampled. Before taking each sample he will wet the area to minimize the amount of dust particles released.  He or she then labels and records all the samples before bringing them to a certified laboratory for analysis.

What happens if asbestos is found?

If asbestos is found, the laboratory will advise the affected materials and the amount of asbestos present in each.  We will then contact you to review the materials and locations that came up positive and we can assist you in determining optimal next steps for your project.

If abatement is necessary we can provide you with resources where you can find a suitable abatement company.

Where do you conduct inspections?

Maypole conducts inspections in all 5 boroughs of New York City. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island.
